The Medik8 brand have a simple skincare philosophy of including core anti ageing ingredients into your daily routine. They call this CSA. It stands for Vitamin C, Sunscreen and Vitamin A. The regime is to apply Vitamin C in the morning, Sunscreen in the morning and a Vitamin A (retinol/retinal) in the evening. This should be seen as a basic 3 step plan that can be adapted to include various extra steps suited to your skins particular needs. It's a great place to start from if you're new to skincare and looking to start a regime but are overwhelmed with all the advice and choices. Key benefits of Vitamin C : It's an exceptional anti oxidant helping protect skin from free radicals and external aggressors. Essential in the synthesis of collagen. It disrupts the melanin synthesis pathway resulting in a brighter, glowing complexion whilst it helps to control and lighten pigmentation. Key benefits of a sunscreen: Wearing a good quality, high SPF facial sunscreen daily is essential. A sunscreen is probably the most powerful anti ageing weapon. Not only does it protect from harmful and ageing UVA and UVB rays (even on a cloudy day 50% of UV rays still reach the skin) but a broad spectrum sunscreen will also protect against infrared rays from the sun, blue light emitted from electrical devices, pollution from the environment and glycation from diet (bad sugars break down collagen). Key benefits of Vitamin A: Increases collagen synthesis and helps prevent its breakdown which in turn helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Increases cell turnover for smooth, decongested skin surface with less texture. Helps to decrease melanin production for a more even toned and brighter complexion. Reduces sebum production which can help to control and minimise breakouts. Helps with UV repair. Promotes and supports general, overall skin health.
